The Journey from the Dancehall to the Pulpit
From the flashing lights of the dancehall to the sacred calling of the pulpit, this is a story of transformation, tragedy, redemption, and purpose.
I’m Dr. Sheldon Evans, and I’m beyond honored to share with you the release of my new book, The Journey from the Dancehall to the Pulpit. This book is more than just a memoir. It’s a testament to the grace and power of God to take what the world may see as broken and turn it into a vessel for His glory.
For 11 years, I lived and breathed nightlife entertainment as one of dancehall’s top promoters. The music, the energy, the crowds, that was my world. But everything changed in 2003 when I found myself locked up in Rikers Island. That same year, I suffered a devastating loss. My mother died in a car accident on her way to visit me. That pain marked a turning point. I left Rikers physically free but emotionally shattered.
Though I continued in the dancehall scene for a few more years, God was calling me to something greater. In 2006, I gave my life to Christ. Two years later, in 2008, I got married, and in 2016, I answered the call to full-time ministry by launching EFLM – Evangelism Family Life Ministries, located at 106-20 Flatlands Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Today, EFLM has grown into a thriving ministry with four additional branches, two in Jamaica, one in Queens, and one in the Bronx.
By God’s grace, I’ve been elevated to the office of bishop and currently on a powerful radio program on Irie Jam Radio Hot 97.1 HD3 FM and also Caribbean Power Jam Radio reaching lives across New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. I’m also the CEO and founder of Favor FM Radio, a platform built to spread hope and faith through the airwaves.
Now, with the release of The Journey from the Dancehall to the Pulpit, I’m excited to share my story in full, raw, real, and rooted in faith. My prayer is that this book will not only inspire but also guide others who may feel lost, broken, or far from their purpose.
This book is a testimony to God’s ability to rewrite your story. And if He can do it for me, He can do it for you.
Let this journey begin.
